Dine

Breakfast, and the evening table.

Breakfast comes with the room, every morning, 7:30 to 10, on the porch when the weather allows. Twice a week the long oak table is set for sixteen and Teo cooks dinner. Everything else is a six minute walk away.

Breakfast / included

Not a buffet. Not a basket.

Breakfast is cooked to order from a short card that changes with the season. There is always bread from the bakery six blocks away, butter from a creamery in the mountains, jam from our fig in late summer, and eggs from a farm near Corralitos. Coffee is from a roaster in Santa Cruz and the tea is loose.

Sit where you like. The porch when it is warm, the dining room by the fire when it is not, or your own balcony or terrace if you ask the night before. It runs from 7:30 to 10. If you need to leave earlier, say so at check-in and a tray will be ready at the hour you name.

Allergies and preferences go in the booking notes and Teo reads every one. Vegan, gluten free, and no dairy are all easy. Something more specific just needs a day's notice.

The evening table / Friday and Saturday

Sixteen seats, one long table, four courses.

Two nights a week the dining room turns into a dinner for sixteen. Guests get first call on the seats, and whatever is left on Thursday at noon goes to people in town who have asked to be on the list. Drinks on the porch at 6:30, sit at 7, done by 9:30.

Teo writes the menu on Wednesday based on what the farms have. Four courses, one choice per course, with a vegetarian version of everything. $85 a person before tax and tip. Wine is poured by the glass from a short list of mountain producers, or bring a bottle for $20 corkage.

It is a shared table. You will sit next to people you have not met. That is the point, and it has started two marriages and one business that we know of.

Where it comes from

Forty miles, most mornings.

We are not going to list every farm, because the list changes with the weather. But the shape of it is steady. Bread from the bakery on N Santa Cruz, baked at four and at our door by seven. Eggs from a farm near Corralitos that we have bought from since 2008. Butter, yogurt and cheese from a small creamery up on the Summit road. Vegetables from the Sunday market and two growers who drop boxes on Tuesday and Friday.

Coffee is roasted in Santa Cruz and delivered weekly. Olive oil is ours when the trees cooperate, which is every other year, and from a grove in Gilroy when they do not. Honey comes from hives three streets over.

If you want to visit any of them, ask Priya. Two of the farms take visitors on weekends and the creamery sells at the gate.

Book a seat

Dinner is by request.

Pick a Friday or Saturday in the form and say how many seats. Guests staying that night are confirmed straight away. Everyone else hears back by Thursday noon.
