Seasons

Summer house, winter house.

The same twelve rooms, two different places. From May to October the pool is open and breakfast is on the porch. From November to April the fires are lit at four, breakfast is by the window, and the rates drop by about a fifth.

Questions

The things people ask.

When exactly does summer start and end?

Summer rates run from May 1 to October 31. Winter rates run from November 1 to April 30. The pool opens the first weekend in May, weather permitting, and is covered the last weekend of October.

Is breakfast really included in winter too?

Yes. Breakfast is included every day of the year for everyone in the room. In winter it moves from the porch to the dining room, by the fire, and the menu leans toward porridge, pancakes and eggs.

What is the fourth night free offer?

From November through March, stay three nights Sunday to Thursday and the fourth night is free, in any room. It does not apply to Friday or Saturday nights or to holiday weeks. Ask for it when you check dates.

Can we use the pool in winter?

No. The pool is covered from November to April and the heater is off. The outdoor shower by the gate stays hot all year, which sounds odd until you try it on a cold morning. The tubs in the Oak Suites and Attic Lofts are the winter answer.

Is there a minimum stay?

In summer, two nights on Friday and Saturday from June through September, and three nights for the Pool Cottage. In winter there is no minimum except on holiday weekends. One night midweek in January is fine with us.

Which season is quieter?

Winter midweek. January and February can be eight guests in twelve rooms, the fires are lit, and the town is empty. Summer weekends are full by April. If you want the house to yourself, come in winter or ask about a whole house stay.

Does the rate change if I book far ahead or last minute?

No. The rate is the seasonal rate on the day you stay. We do not raise it when the house is nearly full or drop it the night before. If a room is open, it is the price on this page.

What happens if it rains during a summer stay?

Breakfast moves inside, the fire gets lit, and the pool stays open unless there is lightning. Summer rain is rare here. Winter storms are common from December to February and the porch is the best seat in town for them.
