We came for one night on the way to Santa Cruz and stayed three. Breakfast on the porch did it. The second morning Teo remembered how I take my coffee, and by the third he had stopped asking.

The Attic Loft is a lot of stairs. They tell you that about four times before you book and they are right. Then you lie in bed and watch the oak leaves move against the sky and you forget the stairs. Go in winter for the stars.

Four stars because the Porch Room is on the street and we heard cars until about nine. The earplugs in the drawer worked. Everything else, the breakfast, the pool, the staff, was five. For $240 in winter I would book it again without thinking.

Brought our dog to the Pool Cottage. Bowls, towel, treats and a bed were already in the room. The side gate meant we could do the early walk without going through the house. After nine the pool was ours. Best dog trip we have done.

We took the whole house for my parents' fiftieth. Twenty two of us. Nora ran it like she had done it a hundred times and Teo's Saturday dinner made my mother cry, in the good way. Nothing about it felt like a hotel.

Lovely, with one note. The Garden Rooms have showers only, no tub, which is on the website but I missed it. The rain shower is excellent and the garden door is the reason to book. Read the room page more carefully than I did.

I work remotely and stayed a week in the Oak Suite in March. Real desk, real chair, fast Wi-Fi, and a sitting room so my calls did not wake my partner. The fourth night free made the math easy. Walked to dinner every night.

We did the vineyard afternoon Priya set up. Three small places, a driver, home by six, nobody rushed us. Then the long table at seven next to a judge who knew the history of the house. I have been to a lot of inns. This one has people in it.

Rained all weekend in December. Did not matter. Fires lit at four, breakfast by the window, a bath with the window open to hear the rain. Luis walked us downtown under one enormous umbrella. We are already booked for next December.

The two complaints
The stair, and the street.
Read enough of our reviews and two things come up. The stair to the Attic Lofts is steep, and the Porch Rooms hear the street until about nine at night. Both are true. Both are on the room pages in plain words, and both are reflected in the rate. We would rather you know now than find out at 3pm on a Friday.
If either is a concern, the Garden Rooms are step free and silent, and the Oak Suites face the oaks, one normal flight up. Priya at the desk will tell you honestly which room fits. Call (408) 555-0105, 7am to 10pm.
